Pleats, like short sharp breaths indexed by creased points of departure bringing new ends to lost futures. Automated, electric exhales again and again failing to mimic that singular celebrated performance. Seventy years on from ‘The Seven Year Itch’ (1955) and from the inception of warped floorboards and pane-less windows, reassemblage of differing forms of archives becomes syntactical. A process of ‘repleating’ depleted physical and figurative objects. That forced air beneath Monroe’s skirts suspends time beyond her celebrity and us, reinforcing relief from the balmy setting of the film and from any possibility of ever ending or being forgotten. Failing flirtations of silk patterned past structures provide that the invisible air is only evidenced by the things it moves.
